Insta360 is a leading brand in the 360-degree camera market, offering a range of high-quality cameras with advanced features and capabilities. The Insta360 X2 and Insta360 X3 are two of the most popular models, and while they share many similarities, there are also some key differences between them.
Table of Contents
Resolution and Imaging Quality differences:
The Insta360 X2 and X3 both offer high-resolution imaging, with maximum resolutions of 5.7K. However, the X3 has an advantage in terms of image quality, thanks to its larger image sensor and improved lens design. The X3 produces sharper and more detailed images and videos, making it the better option for professional-grade content.
Stabilization:
Both cameras feature advanced stabilization technology that helps eliminate camera shake and produce smooth, professional-looking footage. However, the X3 has an advantage in terms of stabilization performance, thanks to its upgraded FlowState stabilization system. This makes it better suited for capturing fast-moving action and other dynamic scenes.
User Interface:
The Insta360 X2 and X3 both have intuitive user interfaces that make it easy to adjust settings, capture footage, and share content. However, the X3 has a slight advantage in terms of the companion app, which offers more advanced editing and creative tools for users.
Portability:
Both cameras are highly portable and easy to carry around, with lightweight and compact designs. However, the X2 is slightly lighter and more compact, making it better suited for travel and on-the-go photography.
Waterproofing:
Both cameras are waterproof up to 10 meters, making them ideal for capturing footage in water-related activities. However, the X3 has a slightly more robust and durable waterproof design, making it better suited for extreme water sports and other challenging environments.
Compatibility:
The Insta360 X2 and X3 are both compatible with a range of devices, including smartphones and tablets. However, the X3 has an advantage in terms of compatibility, with broader support for different devices and operating systems.
Price:
The Insta360 X2 is generally priced lower than the Insta360 X3, making it a more affordable option for users who want high-quality 360-degree imaging but don’t need the most advanced features.
In summary, the Insta360 X2 and X3 are both excellent cameras with advanced features and capabilities. While they share many similarities, the X3 offers slightly better image quality and stabilization performance, while the X2 is more portable and affordable. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your specific needs and preferences as a user.
An alternative for Insta360 X2 & X3: Gimbal Insta360 Flow
While 360-degree cameras like the Insta360 X2 and X3 are great for capturing immersive footage, they can be limited in their stabilization capabilities, especially when it comes to fast-moving action. Using a gimbal, like the Insta360 Flow, is another option for users who want to capture smooth, stable footage without the limitations of a 360-degree camera. A gimbal can be used with a range of different cameras and devices, providing users with greater flexibility and versatility when it comes to capturing professional-grade footage. Whether you choose a 360-degree camera or a gimbal, it’s important to consider your specific needs and preferences to choose the best option for your content creation goals.
Insta360 X2 VS Insta360 X3: Summary
The Insta360 X3 is a significant upgrade from the One X2 and after two years I’m fairly satisfied with the new features and improvement in video quality.
It’s true that once again being stuck on 5.7K video resolution for the third generation in a row is not ideal, but it’s also true that most peoples phones and laptops still can’t handle much more than that, and this is a mass market product.
The new sensors and improved HDR mode are still enough to offer visibly better video and the 72MP images is a leap forward compared to the One X2.
Probably my favourite upgrade is the ability to shoot 4K video with a single lens. This really makes the X3 an amazing 360 camera and a very decent “normal” camera too.
All of this, along with a much improved build quality, makes the X3 a worthy upgrade for any One X2 owners wanting to boost their 360 content creation.
